Federer routs Kohlschreiber at Monte Carlo Masters

MONACO (AP) - Roger Federer thrashed Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-2, 6-1 in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.

The Swiss star, seeded second after Novak Djokovic's withdrawal from the clay-court tournament, bullied Kohlschreiber from the outset, breaking his serve at the start of both sets and wrapping up the win in only 50 minutes.

Federer, a three-time losing finalist at Monte Carlo to top-ranked Rafael Nadal, looked ominous on serve and had Kohlschreiber scampering helplessly around center court with a mixture of sublime lobs and drop shots.

The 16-time Grand Slam champion broke Kohlschreiber four times, saved the only break point he faced with an ace, and sealed victory with his fifth ace of the match

South Africa tour announces $10 million WGC event

Posted: 12 Apr 2011 04:50 AM PDT

JOHANNESBURG (AP) - The Sunshine Tour commissioner says South Africa will host a World Golf Championship event from 2012 offering prize money of $10 million, making it the richest tournament in world golf.

Gareth Tindall says on Tuesday the five-year deal was clinched after meetings with the U.S. PGA Tour and the International Federation of PGA Tours in Augusta, Georgia last week.

The Tournament of Hope will be only the second WGC event outside the United States after the HSBC Champions in China.

A date and venue hasn't been decided but Tindall says organizers will look at the first weekend of December, clashing with Tiger Woods' Chevron Challenge and South Africa's own Nedbank Challenge at Sun City.

On Woods' event, Tindall says, "they will have to move it."
