Chong Wei wins Malaysia Open, Koo-Tan bag doubles title

ALOR SETAR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei defeated China's Bao Chunlai 21-9, 21-19 to bag the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold tournament at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here Sunday.

The top seeded Malaysian took 42 minutes to down the seventh seeded Bao for his fifth title of the year.

Chong Wei easily won the first set but Bao took the fight to the Malaysian before going down fighting.

In the last match of the night, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong defeated Indonesian pair Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan 21-16, 21-7 to win the men's doubles title.

Earlier, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying went down fighting to Indonesia's Tantowi Ahmad-Lilyana Natsir.

The Malaysian pair won the opening game 21-18 but lost the next 15-21.

In the decider, Chan-Goh put up a strong fight before losing 19-21 to the Indonesian pair.

Men's singles: Lee Chong Wei (Mas) bt Bao Chunlai (Chn) 21-9, 21-19.

Women's singles: Wang Xin (Chn) bt Saina Nehwal 13-21, 21-8, 21-14.

Women's doubles: Miyuki Maeda-Satoko Suetsuna (Jpn) bt Shizuka Matsuo-Mami Naito (Jpn) 21-18, 21-13.

Mixed doubles: Tantowi Ahmad-Lilyana Natsir (Ina) bt Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (Mas) 18-21, 21-15, 21-19.

Vettel cruises to Turkish GP win

ISTANBUL (AP): Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel easily won the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, clinching his third win of the season ahead of his teammate Mark Webber and extending his overall lead.

The Formula One champion was in trouble at Istanbul Park after starting from pole position for the fourth consecutive time.

Red Bull started 1-2 on the grid and Webber passed Spanish driver Fernando Alonso late on in an exciting race that saw a lot of bumping and overtaking early on, and where the top four drivers all made four tyre changes.

Alonso was third, giving Ferrari its first podium this season. Vettel won the opening two races and finished second behind McLaren's Lewis Hamilton in China last month.

Hamilton never challenged for the lead and finished fourth.
