KUALA LUMPUR: The Sports Commissioner's Office may have no choice but to de-register the Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF).

Mailsport learnt yesterday that Sports Commissioner Datuk Yassin Salleh has called MSBF secretary Melvin Chia and MSBF treasurer Iskandar Pewira for a meeting at his office in Bukit Jalil today.

This was after former president Datuk WY Chin sent Yassin a letter on May 10 claiming MSBF are now managed by a new board.

Copies of the letter were sent to Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy-president Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan, OCM secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi and National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Zolkples Embong.

Melvin, however, was unsure what would be discussed during the meeting with Yassin.

"I presume it would be about MSBF's current situation," said Melvin.

When asked if MSBF could be de-registered, Melvin replied: "If that is the only solution, I guess we don't have any other choice. Things are getting out of hand.

"We have been keeping quiet for far too long and I guess it's time to do the right thing."

Chin stepped down after serving as president for more than two decades at the biennial general meeting (BGM) on Dec 17 and was succeeded by Raymond Lim.

However, Raymond resigned as president on Jan 17 due to the constant infighting. Since then, Chin has been sending emails to members, apparently to reclaim his position in the federation.

Confusion in FAM

Aseh back in the fold as chairman

Monday, May 16th, 2011 07:43:00

KUALA LUMPUR: THE FA of Malaysia (FAM) Vetting, Monitoring and Transparency committee finally met for the first time since August.

This came about after The Malay Mail exposed on Tuesday that the committee did not sit for a single meeting since Tan Sri Dr Aseh Che Mat was appointed chairman last year.

Aseh, who last week told The Malay Mail that he was not the chairman, sang a different tune after chairing the meeting at Wisma FAM on Friday.

"There was some confusion in the roles. There was a communication problem," said Aseh.

However, the Pos Malaysia chairman kept mum when asked what the confusion was all about.

"Several reports in the media were not very accurate. I was told the role was for monitoring and transparency only."

Aseh added the committee would now meet every month.

"We just had our first meeting and under Article 58 of the FAM statutes, we are to filter and check on foreign players playing in the country. We will also keep an eye on officials to ensure no vices such as bribery and matchfixing takes place."

Aseh's appointment was faxed to him on Oct 7. He, however, did not reply that letter and FAM failed to follow up. The national body also failed to ensure the committee held meetings.

FAM insiders revealed "the committee was hastily set up" as they prepared to host a Fifa investigation team led by head of security Chris Eaton this week.

Eaton and his team are investigating the possible link of seven Malaysians to Singaporean match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal who is in custody in Finland. Also in question is the Malaysia-"Zimbabwe" match in 2009.

Mailsport, had on July 13, 2009, exposed that the Zimbabwe team were in fact clubside Monomotapa United FC.
