SELANGOR are feeling the heat and the lacklustre goalless draw against Johor FC at the Pasir Gudang Stadium on Saturday meant they remain in mid-table.

Coach K. Devan, however, is not worried. Instead, he is confident Selangor "will be up there" fighting for titles once he has full team. Selangor are present plagued with injuries.

But Devan admitted that the Super League champions do miss their AFF Cup hero, Safee Sali, who has moved to the Indonesian league.

Tomorrow, Selangor take on Kedah in Shah Alam in a league match before joining the FA Cup fray against Young Tigers B in a second round match.

"It was not an easy match against Johor FC. The club side played very well. I have no complaints about my players for their overall performance.

"Credit to Johor FC whose goalkeeper (Mohd Anis Faron) was in top form and denied us three clear chances," said Devan.

"I still don't have my full team due to injuries to players like Khairul Anuar Baharom and Khyril Bunyamin.

"Yes, we are missing Safee. He is an asset. He could have made a lot of difference to the team. But based on the strength that we have, we can take on any team. We will be up there once I have all my players at my disposal."

Devan added: "Getting a point from Johor FC in an away match is worth every cents. In away matches you don't get many scoring chances."

Johor FC, who are unbeaten in their last three matches including a 5-0 win over KL SPA FC in a first round FA Cup match, face a tough encounter against Terengganu away in a league match.

Before leaving for Kuala Terengganu by bus yesterday, the Johor FC squad attended the 'akad nikah' (solemnisation of marriage) of Anis in Bandar Baru Uda. Anis, however, was not on the bus and will only join the team today.

"We managed to put the brakes on Selangor. Now we aim to do better against Terengganu. I am impressed and happy with the way we handled Selangor and we can do the same against Terengganu," said Azuan.

Jarmila hungry for success

Posted: 27 Feb 2011 08:01 AM PST

IT has been a breakthrough season so far for Australia's Jarmila Groth despite the year being only two months old.

Jarmila's first success was winning her second tour title at the Moorilla Hobart International before reaching her career high ranking of 31.

The 24-year-old, who is now the second highest ranked Australian after World No 4 Samantha Stosur, also made an impact on the Fed Cup early this month where she beat World No 5 Francesca Schiavone in Australia's 3-1 defeat to Italy in the first round tie.

Jarmila yearns for more success as she hopes to continue her winning momentum at the BMW Malaysian Open. The fourth seed plays a qualifier in her opening match tomorrow.

"Even though it is hot and humid over here, such weather will not deter me as I am used to playing in such conditions," said Jarmila at Bukit Kiara Equestrian & Country Resort yesterday.

"In fact, I play well in such conditions. I hope to do well in the Malaysian Open."

Jarmila has been preparing diligently for her first-round match since arriving on Saturday.

"I have time to prepare as my match is not until Tuesday (tomorrow). I will keep training and practising as usual, as well as concentrating on sharpening my game," said Jarmila, whose first tour title was the 2010 Guangzhou International Women's Open.

She also likes playing on hard-court surfaces as it brings out the best in her game.

"'I've always liked playing on hard-courts as the surface suits my game and also I've done well so far on the surface," she said.

Jarmila, who started playing tennis at seven, is coached by Gavin Hopper.
