Chong Wei bags Masters Finals crown Posted: 09 Jan 2011 01:06 AM PST TAIPEI: Lee Chong Wei put up a fine display to overpower Denmark's Peter Gade Christensen 21-9, 21-14 on Sunday to win the men's singles title at the BWF Super Series Masters Finals here. Chong Wei never looked in danger of going down to Christensen and romped home to win the BWF Super Series Masters Finals men's singles crown for the third time in a row. Chong Wei had scored an easy win over the Dane in a Group A match on Friday and the final encounter went according to script as well. The world No. 1 player pocketed US$40,000 for the victory. RESULTS: Women's singles: Wang Shixian (China) beat Bae Youn-joo (South Korea) 21-13, 21-15. Men's doubles: Carsten Mogensen/Mathias Boe (Denmark) Jung Jae-sung/Lee Yong-dae (South Korea) 21-17, 21-15. Women's doubles: Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli (China) beat Cheng Shu/Zhao Yunlei (China) 21-7, 21-17. Mixed doubles: Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei (China) beat Sudket Prapakamol/Sarale Thoungthongkam (Thailand) 21-17, 21-12. |

Trailing 6-2 after the foursomes and fourball, Europe was at long odds to retain the trophy, but did not lose any of the eight singles matches, winning six and squaring two. Europe's playing captain Colin Montgomerie of Scotland beat Kim Kyung-tae of South Korea 3-and-1 to put Europe ahead and clinch a victory to add to the Ryder Cup title of 2010. - AP |
