KUALA Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) were made to sweat for 37 minutes, before Nur Insafi crumbled 5-0 to hand them their sixth league crown in the Premier Division of the Malaysian Hockey League yesterday.

Four of the titles (three League and one Overall) came under the Ernst & Young banner.

The League title and RM60,000 were won with two matches to spare, against Armed Forces-Airod today and Tenaga Nasional next weekend.

However, KLHC must have experienced cold sweat in the dressing room, as the score stood at 0-0 at the break.

But former national player Chua Boon Huat gave them a lifeline with a 37th minute field goal, his 13th of the season, and the floodgates opened.

The other goals flowed after that as Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin scored a brace (39th, 45th), while Amerullah Aziz (50th) and Ahmad Anuar (55th) completed the rout.

KLHC team manager George Koshy was a little worried initially, but a half-time lecture in the dressing room did the trick.

"It was close in the first half as Nur Insafi had their chances, but a 'good lecture' in the dressing room woke them up and now we will work towards lifting the Overall title," said Koshy.

The first match saw a bizarre ending as bottom-of-the-table UiTM beat Yayasan Negri Sembilan (YNS) 3-2 in a rain-interrupted match.

Torrential rain stopped play in the 45th minute, and UiTM were spared the agony of playing the remaining 25 minutes because they only had two reserves as eight players could not make it for the match.

The UiTM goals were scored by Ikmal Jabar (10th), Rashid Baharom (33rd) and Faheed Saifullah (42nd).

YNS, who had a full squad as their Pakistan players had returned, got their goals through Muhammad Imran (seventh) and Shakeel Abbasi (29th).

NO matter how well they fare this season, they have no hope of playing in the Malaysia Cup. As such, Premier League side, Young Tigers B, plan to make the most out of their FA Cup first round meeting against Melodi Jaya today.

Ismail Ibrahim's Under-19 squad are only two points behind leaders PKNS in the Premier League standings after three games and are serious contenders for a top four finish, which would qualify them for the Malaysia Cup.

But the Malaysia Cup clashes with the AFF Under-19 Championship in Myanmar in September, a tournament which the Young Tigers are preparing for.

That is Ismail's main priority this year as the AFF tournament is also a qualifier for the AFC Under-19 Championship next year.

"We have the Under-19 Championship in September which means we will not be able to play in the Malaysia Cup even if we qualify. But that is not a concern for us as the main reason we are playing in the Premier League is to develop the team," said Ismail after a training session in Bukit Jalil.

Young Tigers B are slightly short-handed for the trip to Nusa Mutiara in Kangkar Tebrau today against FAM League side Melodi Jaya after D. Saarvindran and Nazmi Faiz were called up for Malaysia's Olympic qualifier against Pakistan.

"We only have 20 players available but I was always planning to give some of the others a chance to play. We will also be adding five players to the squad from the Bukit Jalil Sports School's President's Cup team," said Ismail.

In Saarvindran's absence, the search for goals will be led by Farizzuan Azhar, who scored the winner in his side's 2-1 win over Pos Malaysia on Tuesday for his third goal of the season.
