Badminton: 'Misbun must re-think decision' Posted: 12 Jan 2011 04:26 PM PST 2011/01/13 Misbun Sidek The association feels that Misbun's services are needed for the 2012 London Olympics. Misbun had stated dissatisfaction over the new training structure as his main reason to quit but BAM president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh said he will be having another meeting (with Misbun) to convince him of the effectiveness of the new structure.
The player has said in no uncertain terms that he will not train under another coach. Chong Wei had also said he will leave if Misbun's resignation is accepted by BAM and this could be one of the reasons why the association decided not to accept the coach's resignation.
"We will sit down and discuss with him as soon as possible and explain to him why the new structural changes were important for the future of the national team," said Nadzmi yesterday. "If there are changes, we made them for valid reasons and the majority of coaches and players have accepted our decision.
"Misbun has contributed a lot and Chong Wei needs him for the Olympics. "The national interest comes first and we are willing to compromise on certain things but we wouldn't want to pre-empt the outcome of the meeting. "The new structure is much better and individual's perspectives are subjective. We don't get what we want all the time. "Misbun must be open and bring up any issue that has been bothering him. Our objective is to convince him to look at the new structure in a different perspective. "We cannot just make changes to the structure as it was endorsed by the council and any changes must get the council's approval." Nadzmi had stated that changes to the new training structure are unnecessary and hinted that Misbun would probably have to come in without setting any conditions. Nadzmi said they will discuss on a new contract with Misbun if he agrees to return to BAM. Nadzmi, a successful businessman, said nobody is indispensable in the corporate world and the same applies to any association where decisions are governed by the council and general consensus. BAM may have just prolonged the issue again as it is hard to see Misbun returning if the association refuses to make changes to the new training structure. |
Badminton: Coach: Meet conditions and we will talk Posted: 12 Jan 2011 04:24 PM PST 2011/01/13 BAM president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh (left) chairs the exco meeting on Misbun Sidek's decision to quit as national singles coach at the Juara Stadium yesterday. — Picture by Osman Adnan Nadzmi, after chairing the BAM executive council (Exco) meeting yesterday, has asked Misbun to reconsider his decision to resign as the national singles coach and as expected, the latter has laid down his conditions. Misbun wants a reply to his letter, which the coach says was sent after he announced his resignation through an e-mail to BAM general manager Kenny Goh on Dec 31, from the association before he meets with Nadzmi.
"What I'm asking is for (Lee) Chong Wei and for the nation. I will quit badminton if BAM refuses to meet my conditions." BAM has already announced that it is likely to carry on with the new training structure which Misbun was unhappy about and laying down conditions before having a meeting with Nadzmi will only make matters worse.
Several members of the coaching and training committee are frustrated with BAM taking such a soft stand against Misbun and they themselves are likely to resign if he is reinstated as coach. Misbun is a strong character and may not reconsider his decision to quit if his demands are not met by BAM. |
