Football: Ex-Cardiff trainee boost for Kelantan Posted: 11 Jan 2011 04:17 PM PST 2011/01/12 Nicholas Chan will play for Kelantan this season. The 19-year-old, who also had stints with Premier League side West Ham and Burnley, has been registered as a defender in Kelantan's Super League squad. He will also feature for Kelantan in the President's Cup. Kelantan FA (Kafa) president Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Nicholas' inclusion is a big boost for Kelantan.
Nicholas, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, is the son of Cardiff City chairman Datuk Chan Tien Ghee. The defending Malaysia Cup champions have lost five regulars, including captain Indra Putra Mahayuddin, from last season's squad but Annuar believes the current side have the depth to make impact this season.
Meanwhile, Kelantan will seek advice from Cardiff, an English Championship side, on a design for a new stadium in Kota Baru. "There are a lot of things which we can learn from a really professional club like Cardiff and we hope that one day we can send our officials there for experience.

Football: Brotherly love for T-Team, Terengganu Posted: 11 Jan 2011 04:16 PM PST 2011/01/12 Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said poses with the six Terengganu-born players who were part of the AFF Suzuki Cup-winning team at a dinner on Monday. — Picture by Aswadi Alias State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Rozi Mamat said both the Terengganu teams will put aside their differences and work together to bring back football glory to the state. "For far too long the two teams have acted as if they are rivals and we no longer want to hear of Team A and Team B when referring to Terengganu and T-Team as both teams enjoy the state government's financial backing," said Rozi at a dinner on Monday in a leading hotel in Kuala Terengganu to honour the six Terengganu-born players who were part of the AFF Suzuki Cup-winning team.
Terengganu's last silverware was the Malaysia Cup in 2001. Rozi, who is also T-Team manager for the new Super League season, will have a single contract signing ceremony for new players in an effort to bring the teams closer together.
"Speaking as a sports Exco, I promise that both teams will be allocated sufficient funds to challenge for honours this season. "All the state government asks in return is that both teams do their best to achieve success," Rozi added.
Ahmad, in his speech, said the people of Terengganu should be proud of the six players in the national team who beat the odds to win the Suzuki Cup. |
