Lin Dan bests Chong Wei in Korea Posted: 30 Jan 2011 06:58 AM PST Sunday, January 30th, 2011 22:56:00 KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei failed in a bid to bag his third consecutive Super Series title after losing to Lin Dan of China in a thrilling Korean Open Super Series final in Seoul, today. Chong Wei who lost the first game 19-21, managed to level the tie by winning the second 21-14 and force the match into a deciding game but Lin Dan showed why he is the most feared player in the world when he clinched the third 21-16. The Malaysian ace was gunning for his third consecutive title after having won the Super Series Grand Final in Taipei and the Malaysian Open Super Series last week but for Lin Dan, seeded sixth in the tournament, it was his first title of the year. Meanwhile, local favourites Jung Jae Sung/Lee Yong Dae dumped world number one pair Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen from Denmark 21-6, 21-13 to clinch the men's doubles title in convincing fashion. Apart from the men's singles, Chinese shuttlers also stamped their superiority by sweeping three more titles in matches that featured all-Chinese affairs. The women's doubles was won by Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang who avenged their defeat in the Malaysian Open final to Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei, with a 21-18, 19-21, 21-4 victory while the women's singles title which was also a repeat of the Malaysian Open final, saw Wang Yihan reverse the score in Kuala Lumpur by beating Wang Shixian 21-14, 21-18. The mixed doubles title went to Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei who beat Jiaming Tao/Tian Qing 21-17, 13-21, 21-19. The Korean Open offered US$1.2 million in total prize money. |
